Brunch With Friends

We had some friends over for brunch yesterday. This is my favorite meal! It's not quite breakfast - the obligatory "get you started" meal - nor is it lunch - business as usual. It is Brunch!! It's the "we meant to do that" meal where you get to eat everything you're not supposed to at the best hour of the day - 10 am.

Our table featured:
  • a spinach Quiche with peppers (from our garden)
  • zucchini bread (also garden product)
  • garden cucumbers marinated in lemon-dill vinegar
  • mini cucumber sandwiches with a chive-dill spread
  • homemade creme fraiche (a French tart whip cream) with raspberries (dairy from the cow we raised... ha ha)
  • cranberry shortbread
  • we drank Mimosa (OJ with champagne) and coffee
The kids got their own table and had fun eating:
  • bone-shaped cream cheese sandwiches
  • (pig-in-a-blanket?) mini sausages wrapped in croissants
  • and hot chocolate with marshmallows
We even grew the sunflowers that cheered up the table. What a perfect introduction to Fall - the harvest season, the best season.

The Creme Fraiche

Our friend Erik gets credit for the fabulous pictures above as well as the pictures of Eve below. These pictures are actually the breakthrough moment Eve had with her Papa. She FINALLY started smiling at him instead of screaming. Here is the juicy-cuteness.

And here she is looking like she toked her first hippie-lettuce at a Marley concert. Must have been the Mimosa Mama drank!

The kiddos indulged in some Play Doh fun after the meal.

I love kid art. It is honest. Uninhibited.

Brendan made a "birthday cake" with his pile of doh. You have to watch the video below. He tells me what he made and then acts surprised to see it.

Grace, I didn't even recognize Eva. She must be growing so fast! Love the spread, it looked beautiful and yummy! Definitely impressive. Good job on the garden Matt and Brendan.
