Prenatal Appointments, Vehicles and Other Necessary Evils

This morning I'm going to a prenatal appointment and then off to buy a car. Our family has reached its maximum ability to SQUEAZE into our tiny vehicle. The seat in front of the infant car seat has to be pushed all the way forward, which leaves room for only dust between the front rider's knees and the dash. Not the safest ride when your nose is 12 inches from where the airbag explodes! Needless to say, Matt can't drive when the infant seat is behind the drivers seat since his long legs barely fit into the car when the seat fully extended. Not to mention, it's cruel to put a newborn (and ME) into a 110 degree car with no AC when I go to my weekly postpartum and baby-wellness appointments this summer.

We've been shopping online for a hatchback for a while now. Yesterday we test drove the Toyota Matrix and temporarily pretended like the Prius was an option for us. The only problem with the Prius is that it's in such high demand that Toyota offers no incentives for buying it (0% financing, cash back, etc...). Because of interest the monthly payments would be about $100 more than the other hatchbacks we're looking at. We wish so badly that we could afford what we really believe in - not being so reliant on petrolium and minimizing damage to the ozone and our health. But this morning we're seriously considering the Pontiac Vibe or the Chevy Equinox.

Likely there will be news of a new car before there's news of a new baby! So, I'll keep you posted on this.
