Random Acts of Sickness

Brendan has been very sick the past week and a half. He had a stomach virus (vomiting and diarrhea) for a week and lost FIVE lbs (25% of his body weight). Immediately afterward he got a high fever, around 103, and he still has it. Luckily his appetite is back when he has Tylenol in his system and he's managed to put a little weight back on him. But he still looks like a starving kid from a 2/3rds world country - skinny limbs and distended belly.

This is him looking outside at our first sunny day after a week of being housebound. Portland sun does a body good.

We've been doing a whole lot of this:

And a little bit of that:

And even a bit of this:

As you can see, we let Brendan have his "boff" (the paci) outside of his crib when he's sick. It will be tough thing to break when he's FINALLY well again.

Newsflash:

Since getting sick Brendan has learned how to:
  • climb up our counter top height chairs and table, which are a few inches taller than the average,
  • climb onto our bed, which he can't even see over,
  • climb in and out of the tub
  • AND put his ankle over the rim of his crib (we haven't let him finish that little adventure)!!!
The last one worries us the most. Apparently, a little starvation won't stop this active boy. We are currently shopping for a toddler bed for obvious reasons. We'll have to do the hard work of teaching a 1 1/2 year old to sleep in a space he can leave whenever he wants to. We have a plan. We'll see if it works.

I can't believe the Queen Mum let him borrow one of her hats! LOL

Quinn climbed out of his crib about 4 months ago. Hasn't done it since.

I'm so sorry to hear Brendan lost five whole pounds! Why does it feel like we live in different cities these days? We really need to schedule some time to see each other soon. - Cara

In the first picture Brendan looks a bit like Winnie the Pooh. I feel bad that I think he looks cute, poor little thing.
