The Message

This morning I listened to Rev. Al Sharpton speak on Drew's campus. His topic was the legacy of MLK and his audience was mostly theological students. Wow... he was really inspirational!

Here is what he had to say:

  • America has a strage way of distorting the meaning of holidays.
  • Every year we lose more and more of what MLK was all about.
  • It's a shame when social activists get reduced to celebrities.
  • There is no place in heaven for those that don't struggle with the issues of their day.
  • Why do we remember MLK? He didn't pack a stadium in his lifetime. He changed laws. And, he did it with love.
  • We can't become like the people who hate us.
  • When you get to heaven, God is not going to ask you what Bush did. He's going to ask "What did you do?"
  • The message of Dr. MLK was this -- "You've got to lose yourself."
